RICH NETLIST · TIMELINE

Timeline

Every release and milestone of RNL, the latest first

The introduction shows only the latest few, and what comes next.

  1. Desktop viewer 0.5.3

RNL Viewer 0.5.3: entering an instance of a subcircuit that Auto Include found defined several times asks which definition to open; a subcircuit shows its parameters in a bar under the path, and a dialog changes them; entering a subcircuit of another file takes the values its instance writes. Release notes

  2. RNL core 0.5.5

Core 0.5.5: the Document carries the parameters of subcircuits, those a definition gives, those an instance writes and the numbers they come to, and a build can bind values to them; an instance of a subcircuit that Auto Include found defined several times lists the definitions. Release notes

  3. RNL core 0.5.4

Core 0.5.4: rnl solve says the solver is a preview; each object lists the usages and groups it is a member of, in the Document, the snapshot and the new rnl explain; package files and hardware-description files are known by their format; the solver tells supply, ground and port symbols by their drawing. Release notes

  4. Desktop viewer 0.5.2

RNL Viewer 0.5.2: groups are a kind of usage, and an object's usages are listed when it is selected; nested frames are set out so that their titles show; the desktop viewer carries the public packages, chosen at install time or by download; files that are no netlist open as plain text; the web viewer starts faster. Release notes

  5. RNL core 0.5.3

Core 0.5.3: a label attached to a terminal stands for the nets of its pin, so clicking it selects and highlights the net as clicking the pin does; clearer error messages from the manifest module. Release notes

  6. Desktop viewer 0.5.1

RNL Viewer 0.5.1: eight languages in View › Language, chosen at the first start from the browser's or the system's list of languages; a globe and the English word mark the Language menu; a label of a terminal selects its net; clearer English texts. Release notes

  7. RNL core 0.5.2

Core 0.5.2: a tool can write an object's colours and other style properties through the edit ops set and add-usage, and read them back from the snapshot. Release notes

  8. RNL core 0.5.1

Core 0.5.1: the edit op add-usage writes a usage's parameters, which the snapshot reads back as given, so a tool can write the parameters of a definition through the runtime. Release notes

  9. Desktop viewer 0.5.0

RNL Viewer 0.5.0: the web viewer works on phones and tablets, with touch gestures, the drawing and the side panel as two pages on a phone and the side panel under the drawing on a tablet held upright; a manifest's display settings are offered and applied while its files are shown; the languages of the interface come from the project's list. Release notes

  10. RNL core 0.5.0

Core 0.5.0: a role can take every kind of object of 9.4, labels, texts, annotations and bundles among them; the editor interface's snapshot gives each usage's parameters as its statement writes them; manifests carry display settings that a viewer offers to apply. Release notes

  11. Desktop viewer 0.4.1

RNL Viewer 0.4.1: projects (Save or Download Project, Open Project, and on the web Download and Load Manifest) replace Download Library; File gains Export Image as SVG or PNG; the web viewer opens external manifests, such as the gallery's designs, with ?manifest=; a hint when a subcircuit has no definition. Release notes

  12. RNL core 0.4.1

Core 0.4.1: netlists that use rnl-std-no-labels, as every Analog Canvas export does, can declare structures; a hint for a subcircuit that no file read defines and that is drawn as a box of its terminals; the npm package gains @rich-netlist/runtime/manifest, which reads and writes manifests and projects. Release notes

  13. Desktop viewer 0.4.0

RNL Viewer 0.4.0: each file's parse format, SPICE or Spectre, can be set in the Library; Shift+R shows current directions; PATH can take a folder with its sub-folders; panel keys work at once during startup; the subcircuit highlight can be set in the Color Scheme. Release notes

  14. RNL core 0.4.0

Core 0.4.0: each file of a netlist is read in its own format, SPICE or Spectre, which can be set file by file; the CLI gains --format and rnl formats, and the npm package takes formats too. Also fixes writing ORIENT("R0") and a warning given where 0.3 gives none. Release notes

  15. Desktop viewer 0.3.1

The first macOS packages of the desktop viewer, for Apple Silicon and Intel, and Chinese text in the interface and editor no longer shows as boxes on Linux without Chinese system fonts. Release notes

  16. Desktop viewer 0.3.0

Adds current-direction arrows, lighter usage frames computed by the core, encoding-preserving saves with explicit UTF-8 options on the desktop and single-line Library paths, and fixes panel keys pressed during startup. Release notes

  17. RNL core 0.3.0

Core 0.3.0: rnl render can draw usage frames and current directions, saving keeps a file's original encoding, and nine fixes to reading and drawing land. Release notes

  18. Desktop viewer 0.2.0

Adds interactive usage inspection and schematic overlays, configurable netlist colors, background web package discovery and Library ZIP downloads, and fixes net-label highlighting and applying downloaded edits. Release notes

  19. RNL core 0.2.0

The first core release: ready-to-run rnl executables for Windows, Linux and macOS, and the npm package now carries the core's version, 0.2.0. Release notes

  20. Desktop viewer 0.1.4 and npm preview 15

The Viewer adds English and Chinese UI, Auto Include, compilation and drawing caches, and background preloading; @rich-netlist/runtime publishes 0.1.0-preview.15. Related changes

  21. Open the full web viewer from another site

The complete Viewer and embedded mode share an import API for netlists, URLs and exact public-package versions. Other sites can open or reuse a Viewer tab and cancel superseded imports. Related changes

  22. Public packages through a catalog

Optional public packages move to rnl-packages. The viewers and site fetch versioned files from its catalog and verify SHA256; the standard packages remain built into the core. Related changes

  23. Desktop viewer 0.1.3

Adds keyboard navigation through levels, new windows, editing mode and loading progress, with virtualized text for large netlists. Release notes

  24. Separate symbol and style packages

eda-symbol supplies 137 schematic symbols; the independent eda-style styles standard, custom and EDA symbols. Either package can be used on its own. Related changes

  25. Site navigation, logo and package gallery

The site gains shared navigation and sidebars, package groups for standard series, extensions and PDKs, an interactive circuit logo, and an origin toggle in the gallery. Related changes

  26. Interactive drawings in other pages

The web viewer gains a canvas-only embedding mode. Other pages can open netlists, navigate levels, fit the drawing and change its background through messages without reloading. Related changes

  27. npm previews 13 and 14

@rich-netlist/runtime publishes 0.1.0-preview.13 and preview.14, continuing to distribute the WebAssembly core under next. Related changes

  28. Public extensions and SKY130

eda-style provides EDA schematic symbols and styling; the SKY130 package is renamed pdk-sky130. Extensions are included explicitly, while the core bundles only the standard packages. Related changes

  29. Desktop viewer 0.1.2

The first Linux AppImage and deb release adds the Library, search paths, hairlines and a dark background. Release notes

  30. Desktop viewer 0.1.1

The desktop viewer edits the text and saves it, solves and shows the result as a preview, and lists the objects that are not drawn; it reads files of language 0.3. Learn more

  31. Language standard 0.3, revisions 1 and 2

The solver must write back every layout decision it makes, so that a viewer without a solver renders the same schematic: unnamed objects can be referenced by number, and automatically routed wire paths are written back. Standard package series 0.3 spells out definition and symbol names in full; the formal standard includes a Chinese translation, and version 0.2 files remain supported. Learn more

  32. The RNL skill package and the page for agents

A skill package for AI agents (Agent Skills format): a short guide, a reference to the standard packages, notes on the tools and examples; this site has a page for agents and an llms.txt. Learn more

  33. npm preview package

The core as WebAssembly is published to npm as a preview: @rich-netlist/runtime, under the tag next. Learn more

  34. Toolkit 0.1: web and desktop viewers

Initial release of the runtime, the SPICE and Spectre adapters, the renderer, and the rnl command; the web viewer goes online and the Windows desktop viewer 0.1.0 is released. They open a netlist with RNL and draw placed objects. Learn more

  35. Language standard 0.2, revision 1

The draft consolidated into a formal standard: English normative, with a Chinese version and the standard word list; the web pages, PDFs and Markdown are all built from one source. Learn more
